    map of mostly safe parking

A word on parking: park with care!  Virginia Tech's department of Parking Services employees are known throughout the student body for their enthusiasm towards their jobs.  The areas marked in green are "safe" parking, with the following caveats: Don't park around the Drillfield before 8pm on Fridays.  All other marked places, don't park there before 5pm on Fridays.  If you see a "really big" lot, thats probably safe to park in as well.

For a larger map, click here to download an entire map of VT's campus (785k PDF file). It shows some of the larger lots at the fringes of campus that are available for parking.

And here's what VT's Parking services webpage has to say about visitor parking (extra important stuff in maroon):

"Visitors (non-students or non-faculty/staff) may park in any faculty, staff, visitor, or student parking space if they have a valid visitor parking permit and if the space is not restricted by signs. Some restricted areas include handicap spaces, yellow curbed areas, loading zones, service vehicle zones, timed areas, sidewalks, grass, admission areas, teaching assistant spaces, the right side (as you enter the lot) of the Donaldson Brown Hotel Lot, the Tennis Court Lot (East Coliseum Lot), and the Owens and Dietrick Dining Hall Lots. Visitors are recommended to use the Faculty/Staff section of Perry Street Lot, C-Lot (behind Litton Reaves), Coliseum Lot, Derring Hall Lot, Washington Street, Litton-Reaves Extension Lot and Shultz Lot.

Visitor parking permits are available at the Visitor Information Center on Southgate Drive (7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday) or at the University Police Department in the Maintenance Complex off Southgate Drive all other times. Visitor permits must be signed and dated by an authorized parking services or police official and displayed 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, unless otherwise noted by a sign.?

If a department has a visitor coming, they may contact the Parking Services Office in advance for a visitor parking permit. Students should direct their visitors to pick up a visitor permit themselves at the Visitor Information Center during regular office hours or the Police Department at all other times.

Visitor permits are not needed on weekends (Friday, 5:00 p.m. to Monday, 7:00 a.m.), unless otherwise noted by a sign. Metered parking spaces are also available for short-term visitors on campus. Visitors with parking permits may not park free at parking meters."
