Virginia Tech Fencing Club Minutes, 4/3/03
Members' Minutes
Attention Newbies
If you're free on the 15th of May (or if you're not, then clear it), the club is looking to send a contingency to Roanoke College to fence the students in their beginner Fencing class. Look for more info to come from Alex.
Club Jackets
If you want to order a Virginia Tech Fencing Club Jacket, email Alex. The Jackets will likely not be ordered until next semester. See the email from Alex, dated 3/27, for more details. Please make note that to get the club to pay for part of your jacket, you have to volunteer your time at the Alumni Tournament!
Pictures
If you have them, give them to Laura. We are looking specifically for pictures of members fencing. We need them for the year book, so pleeeeaaaasssseeeeee bring them in.
Awards Dinner
There will be a Sports Club Awards Dinner held on the 23rd of April. It starts around 6 or 630 and lasts a long time. Any one in our club may go. If you wish to go, email Krista. Please note that this is separate from our Banquet.
Daylights Savings Time
On Saturday night/ Sunday morning, we lose an hour of sleep. You can remember how to set your clock by this handy saying~Spring forward, Fall Back. This is spring, hence we will leap forward through exactly one hour of time instantaneously.
Upcoming Tournaments
This Weekend
NCCFC If you're going you'd know. Be sure to be in front of War Memorial Gym by 730 am, Friday 4/4/03.
William & Mary Open (USFA VA Div.) Open Foil, Epee, & Sabre. Williamsburg, VANext Weekend
Dogwood Open (USFA VA Div.) Electric Epee, Dry Foil and Sabre. Charlottesville, VA.Officers' Minutes
Budget
We're currently working on a more realistic budget. In the future, we need to do more fundraising. We also need to file the proceeds we get from Tournaments under funds raised.
Practice Strips
New Policy Once a strip is taken out for use by one of the three weapons, that strip will be used for that weapon so long as there are at least two (2) fencers of that weapon currently on that strips rotation of fencers who wish to continue using the strip. In other words, if Epee gets a strip out, that strip will remain designated as an Epee strip, as long as there are at least 2 Epee fencers who want to continue fencing on it.
Annual Report
It's been proposed that the Historian should keep a "club diary", which may record events that we attend, both social and competitive, how many people showed up to the event, what went on there, directions, addresses, and misc. statistics. It will be put on the agenda for the Fall Meeting.
Alumni Tournament
We have approximately 18 students signed up for both the tournament and the banquet. We have sufficient supplies of medals and trophies. The trophies are currently being engraved. The tournament will be run in normal USFA style in terms of times and format.
Display Case
We're currently designing a shelf type thing to install in our space in the display case. Plans coming to an officer's meeting near you.
Gym Space
We have the gym reserved for this weekend, which we won't be using. Make a note to not let this happen again. It makes people unhappy.
Fundraising
Fundraising has been put on hold until next semester. I gathered information from Krispy Kreme. If we order 50 - 299 dozen, we buy them at $2.25/dozen. If we order 300+ dozen, we get them for $2.00/dozen. Recommended sale rate of $5.00/dozen, but it's entirely up to us. We must give at least 48 hours notice, and we have to pay upfront.
Banquet
The swords are being engraved. We need to select an MVP, to be selected by the team and squad captains. We need to select a ROY, to be selected by the Officer Corps.
Newbie Surveys
Have been collected and compiled. The results will be distributed by Jaime.
NCCFC
We're going down in a caravan in the morning, except for the late van. We will all first stop at the hotel, and disperse there. We will have contact lists of the people down there, lists of phone numbers of our members going, and directions. "Jeff" will be working to set up the tournament and has asked we call him when we get closer so we can make arrangements to get to his house, etc.. We have 4 vans, 2 new Dodges, and older GMC and an older Ford. The seats will be taken out of the older vans, hence the newer vans will be the 5 passenger vans. We have agreed to leave the seating arrangements as is in Jen Lin's prior email, which I will append at the end of this segment. Anne, Alex, Jen, and Laura will be picking up the vans at 730. Daylights Savings time could be an issue. Remind each other, so we're not the retards who show up an hour late.
The van arrangements are as follows
1. Jess, Laura, Mike, Will, Paul
2. Jen L, Krista, Caitlin, Brett, Rob
3. Alex, Anne, Nick, Jen W
4. Ryan, Barry, Michelle, Jamie
New Officers
Go meet Allen, Sam, and Jesse. Allen and Sam's offices are located next to each other in the rec sports office in War Memorial Gym. Jesse's office is located in the Architecture Annex, room 209. They are people who we like, so be personable.
