Virginia Tech Fencing Club Minutes, 10/19/04

My Eulogy:
I just wanted to say goodbye all! It's been fun but I'm happy to be handing over my duties as Sergeant at Arms to Dustin and going back to being a regular member. So has not to completely have failed in the exiting minutes department I will include this short poem. However, if you take my advice just this once save you eyes and skip it!

I've gotten you the cold hard facts so the minutes might have lacked
But who knows maybe Dustin will have a poetry attack!
Well that's it for me but I can't say it hasn't been fun
Now I'll quit all this torturous rhyming and get the minutes done!

Virginia Cup:
Congratulations to Paul who placed 3rd in foil! Results will be posted to the website soon.

Newbie Tournament:
Thanks to everyone who turned out to help or compete. We had a field of 13 competitors fighting it out. Our top three finishers were Steve Schuyler, Carl Ostrowski, and Xin Zhao. For full results check out the website.

Men's Team:
Austin Carter has been selected as Epee's squad captain.

Social:
To replace the hurricane ravaged corn maze social we will be going Swing Dancing. Free lessons from 7:30 to 8:30 on Oct. 29th. Dancing afterward is $4 a person. So come out for the lesson and/or dancing!!

Fall Meeting:
All constitution changes were approved. Dustin Arendt was elected as the new Sergeant at Arms (APPLAUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Hell Week:
Mark you calendars as once again UVA will be hosting a fencing hell week. It will be held from Wednesday, January 12th through the 18th. This means Tech students will only be able to attend through Sunday unless you want to miss the first few days of class. It's a really good experience even if you don't get be there the entire week. This is not a club event so attendance is on an individual basis. It will cost between $30 and $40 depending on attendance.

Community Service:
We are still collecting items for troops in Iraq until Oct. 22nd. We don't have much to donate right now. Is everyone just waiting for the big rush at the end??

Fund Raising:
Tickets were handed out starting last night. If just those tickets get sold we'll have a nice pot of money going. So get out there and SELL, SELL, SELL!! Seriously, this is an easy way for the club to get some money and replace something like one of the ratty masks!!
