Virginia Tech. Fencing Club Minutes 8/21/2005

“Just the Facts, Ma’am”

"NEW YORK, NY. A man was knocked down by a car and got up uninjured, but lay back down in front of the car when a bystander told him to feign injury in order to collect insurance money. The car rolled forward and crushed him to death."
- Associated Press, 1977

I’d like to welcome back everyone to the club this year. Hopefully you all had a good summer.  And I hope everyone makes it to our first practice of the semester tonight.  Same place and time as last year: 7:30pm in the Dance room.

Officer Meeting:

The first officer meeting was held Sunday and we had several non-officers attend as well, anyone who would like to can attend the Officer’s meetings.  Currently they are scheduled for Mondays at 6:00 pm on the ground floor of Payne Hall.  We have already had the meeting for this week though so that will start next week.

Officer Nights:

Officer nights are temporarily as follows

Monday:           Austin, Sarah, James

Tuesday:           Anne, Austin, Christina

Wednesday:     Melinda, Anne, Sarah

Thursday:         Melinda, James

Friday:              Paul + Rotation of the other officers

I will update the bulletin board once Add/Drop is over.

Fencing Demo:

The Fall fencing demonstration will be Monday September 5th at 7:45 pm.  Show up early (around 7:20) to start setting up.  All Returning members are asked to come and help out.

Tech Open T-Shirts:

We need to think up an idea for this year’s Tech Open T-shirt, we’ll get someone to draw it, we just need the idea.  We are hoping for something new, no longer on the last two year’s theme.  Please email any ideas you have to Sarah.

Fencing Clinic:

We will be hosting a fencing clinic with Bruce Capin on The weekend of October 16th.  More info to come.

USFA info:

Be aware.  The USFA has raised dues again this year, they are now $50 for a Competitive USFA Membership.  Also Tournament Fees for VA Division are now $15 per event, with no discount for multiple events.

Bulletin Board:

I am putting schedule of events up on the bulletin board that will include a place to write who’s coming to tournaments and can offer rides.  It will also have a place for anyone who needs to borrow equipment for that specific tournament.  You still must let the Armourer know about borrowing equipment a wee in advance.
