Virginia Tech. Fencing Club Minutes 01/16/2006
“Just the Facts, Ma’am”
“America believes in education: the average professor earns more money in a year than a professional athlete earns in a whole week. “
-Evan Esar (1899 - 1995)
Hopefully Permanent Officer

Officers:
Mary Clark Lind has been appointed and approved as our new Historian.
Beginners Lessons:
New Fencers, don’t miss practice or we’ll set the Sabre squad after you. Old Folks, show up and help out with the lessons, it makes them so much better when we can get people into groups.
VIWFA Champs:
This should theoretically be on Feb. 19th. But currently we don’t have a venue, so cross you’re fingers, and pray! (or chant or howl, depending on your religious background)
Right Now I believe we are looking into UVA hosting, we’ll see.
MACFA This Weekend:
The Men’s Team is Fencing at JHU this weekend. We will meet at 12:00 Noon Saturday in front of War Memorial Hall, and leave from there.
MACFA Champs:
The MACFA Championship tournament has been rescheduled for St. Johns college in Annapalis. The format for the Main part of the tournament is the same but the format for individuals has changed. It will now be:
“A direct elimination of 8 fencers. Take up 4 from A, 3 from B and 1 from C. The seeding would be A strip 1-4, B strip 5-7 and C strip seeded 8. Awards given to 1,2 and two third place medals for the semifinalists in the individual competition. In addition, medals would be given to the first three places on the A, B, and C strips.”
Senior Swords:
For those of you who don’t know, we give out swords to our graduating Seniors in the club, we are trying to get a jump on this now since it appears Jay will be booked solid for engraving later in the year.
SAC:
We are now working on getting everything ready for SAC(Southern Athletic Conference?) in February.
We have decided on Brazilian Format, same as the Temple Open, and last year’s SAC. We want to have mainly pools of 6 and 5.
The Women will help run the tournament for the Men on Saturday, and the Men will run it on Sunday for the Women.
Triplette will vendor and provide strips.
We are also reprinting our “Ego/Star Wars” T-shirts to sell..
Dates to Know:
January 28-29 Battle Axe Open @ Richmond
January 29 MACFA Meet 2 @ JHU
January 29 Sweetbriar Invitational @ Sweetbriar College
February 11-12 SAC @ Va Tech.
February 25 NIWFA Champs @ Tufts
February 26 MACFA Champs @ St. John’s College (Annapolis, MD)
Officer Meetings are held on Mondays at 6:00pm in the Ground Floor of Payne Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend. This time may be changing soon due to officer’s schedule conflicts.
