Virginia Tech Fencing Club Minutes, 04/14/04

It is time for the smack down to be laid: Our armourer requests that you inform him BEFORE checking out gear for any tournaments/weekend/or just for kicks. On a happy note, our treasurer has generously donated hangers to the cause. Way to be James, way to be!

Meetings:
Officer meetings will now be held on Tuesdays, in the third floor cross-over lounge of Payne hall (until we find someplace better) at 6:45. As always, anyone is welcome to attend. Sometimes we have food. Seriously. It?s good times. Come on out, you know you want to.

Summer Fencing:
Our only option is to use the same time slot we did last summer, Monday-Thursday, 2pm-5pm. I know that won?t work for a lot of people, but it is the only time the room would be available and the gym closes earlier in the summer than during the school year. I hope everyone in or around Blacksburg this summer can come do some fencing!
For those of you wondering, Fall practices will be held at the same time next semester.

RecSports Deadlines:
The Sports Club Awards and Recognition dinner is on April 28. We?ll be nominating people via the Rec Sports office, so go there if you have someone to submit. There will be an email with more specifics soon.

Alumni Tournament:
Ohhh yes, it?s that time again. Time to get our butts kicked by our forbearers. May 1st--2nd is when it?s happenin?, and we are looking into having reduced fees this year (probably only 10$ per fencer, alums and all). It looks like it will be an IHOP brunch at noon Sunday and Macados for dinner around 8 Sat. during which we will be taking over the entire top floor. We?re currently working on getting a block of hotel rooms too. A social is in the works for Saturday night. More information will follow in an email soon.

The Website:
It?s been updated, and some more results have been posted. Cruise on over with the link below and check it out.

End of the Year Banquet:
5/5 at El Gaud?s. (El Guadelupe's for you non-beleivers) That?s all I have for you right now.

Fundraising:
The 50-50 raffle is up and running. If you don?t have tickets to sell or you were really intrepid and already sold all of yours, then see an officer and we?ll hook you up with some. The drawing will be April 27th at the officer meeting. Before that time, everyone needs to bring their ticket tabs with the names/email addresses and the moola to James. Officers ? the tickets are in the middle locker in the back room. We?re using the gray tickets, and just make sure you tell James how many were taken.

Roanoke Newbie-Tournament:
April 15th is official! This is the tournament where our new fencers can travel to Roanoke to fence with the class there in an informal tournament. This is good way to get strip time and have some fun, so make plans to come! You will need to meet in front of War Memorial Gym that day at 5pm, and it will be approximately 5 ? 11pm (travel time and all that). More specific info will be comin? at ya alla your President. This is open to all new fencers from this semester and anyone who has not fenced at the tourney in Roanoke before.

*If you have any questions, comments or concerns, or if you just really like sending emails, please email me (Kristin) ? dnzn@vt.edu

**Weekly officers meetings are held at 6:30pm, Tuesdays, in the cross-over lounge of Payne Hall. All are invited to attend.
