Southern Alliance Team Invitational
UNC Chapel Hill
17 and 18 January, 2004
|
On the first weekend before Spring semester 2004 began, the Virginia Tech Fencing Club took its Mens and Womens teams
down to UNC Chapel Hill for a team invitational tournament. Possibly the start of a new conference nicknamed the "Southern Alliance",
the meet was attended by several teams. VT, UNC Chapel Hill, Florida, Haverford, UVA, and Clemson all fielded both Mens and Womens teams. The
Mens teams were joined by UMD College Park and NC State, while the Womens teams were joined by JHU and UNC's B-team. Virginia Tech did well overall, and much good fencing was seen from some people who had not had a chance to practice since before the Christmas break! The following are a smattering of pictures from both the Mens' event (17 January 2004) and the Womens' event (18 January 2004). Hats off to the ladies who kept the men company early Saturday morning, and many thanks to the men who stayed to cheer the ladies on during Sunday's events. |

The colliseum of the day - bring on the lions!

And some more battle: (Note the single light!)
Some well earned relaxation.

After a night's rest the ladies prepare to confront their opponents. As you can see, they are a little more organized about this whole "stretching" thing. |

PS - If you want to make them happy, ask Jen, Anne, or Sara about their bouts with Florida!
Sabre is always done first, so there is more time to sit and chat.
