Newbie Tournament

October 17, 2004

Every semester we hold a tournament that is entirely for the people that participated in that semester's beginner's classes. We hold it in one of the War Memorial gyms, run it ourselves, and all that fun stuff. This year it was on a Sunday at noon (over the year's we've learned not to put it during football games...), and we had a fairly decent turnout. About 13 fencers participated, and about as many old members came to help out. Jen L. and Rob were kind enough to do the directing throughout the day. Hopefully everyone had a blast; all of the newbies certainly did well. :)

In the beginning there was dressing, stretching, and waiting for the bouting to begin. We also had Paul, Laura, and Alan trying to make sure we had enough working gear, as multiple body cords decided that today was the perfect to take a vacation from the working world.

As I said, the body cords decided to go on vacation, as did some of our blades. What would a tournament be without having to troubleshoot and fix electrical problems? No fun, I tell you...no fun...

And of course, there was also fencing involved! Imagine that. :) We even learned sportsmanship and everything!

Congrats to everyone! Especially our top three medalists! :)
